      Company Profile
We are a small team dedicated to building the best yacht and one design sails. Situated on the shores of Windermere we supply world-wide. Our sails win championships at World, European and National level.

Since our beginnings in 1985, we have built on our position in the keelboat market and along the way have had success in many dinghy classes.
We have developed our capability to construct sails for larger yachts by investing in the latest computer design and manufacturing machinery.

In addition to racing sails we produce high quality cruising sails and supply to many schools and teaching establishments.
We offer a comprehensive repair service and supply all manner of covers, awnings sailcoats and dodgers.
We manufacture a variety of items for industrial clients in areas as diverse as architecture sails and decoration and oil & gas.

We are members of the Association of British Sailmakers.

We are a eight strong team with Nathan, Greg, Andy, Tomasz and Steve sailmaking, Vera, and Ann sewing and Shelagh catching all the loose balls along with accounts and admin.

Nathan was born into a sailing family, his ancestors building yachts over a hundred years ago, and his father a great sailmaker. He crews on yachts, came to us for a holiday job and decided to stay. Now responsible for the smooth flow of work through the loft.
Vera, an expert sewing machinist, has many years of experience in the loft and is our longest serving employee.
Greg lives sailing, campaigns a GP which he fitted out and crews on Team Eric and various yachts. He has worked for the company for several years and now has a wide experience of sailmaking. This summer he helmed Eric the Boat to first place at the Sonata Nationals.
Ann has been with us for some time after many years of professional sewing experience and brings a wealth of talent to our operation.

The company is led by Steve Goacher who took the unconventional route into sailmaking by way of an Applied Physics Degree and some years in engineering. Along the way fitting in a 470 Olympic campaign and competing in Moth, OK, National 12, Enterprise, GP, Fireball, Flying Fifteen, Sonata, 1720, Beneteau 25, Melges 24, Formula 1. He has been 3 times Flying Fifteen World Champion, 4 times Flying Fifteen National Champion and Sonata National Champion. This summer he has added Flying Fifteen European Champion to his CV.
With our increasing involvement Steve is often seen in various IRC classes.

      Winter Service
We very much appreciate winter service work earlier rather than later. Keep em' coming

      Cruising
We have supplied several serious long term cruising ventures this year for boats intending to sail many thousands of miles to warmer climes. With heavy duty machinery and 5000 sq ft of floor space we are able to take on some seriously weighty projects.

If you are looking for good quality, no nonsense sails, please give us a call.
Fully battened mainsails are becoming more and more popular. We have samples of the popular systems at the loft and can make lazybags and luff socks to suit.

      Sailing Schools
We have a long history of providing bomb proof school sails, and doing the odd repair when bomb proof is not enough.

      Service
However frantic we aim to keep you sailing and turn around repairs within a week or less.
Now is the time to carry out winter service work to ensure that a small problem now doesn't turn into a large one next season.
You can be sure that repairs carried out will be completed with the correct materials and the best machinery under the guidance of an experienced sailor and sailmaker. We are a member of the Association of British Sailmakers. Don't settle for anything less.

      Covers, Awnings and Cushions
We supply covers and awnings of all types. We have recently recruited more staff to cover this area and can offer advise on the large number of fabrics available.

      • Boat Covers Custom and Standard
      • Sailcoats
      • Lazybag Sailcoats
      • Furling Genoa Luffsocks
      • Boom Tents
      • Sprayhoods and Framework
      • Cockpit Enclosures
      • Dodgers
      • Cushions

      Computer Design and Cutting
Our sail design is almost totally computer aided. In house we own a computerised cutting table to ensure accuracy and repeatability. It is cost effective and efficient enabling us to compete favourably on cost with our multinational competitors.
Most small boat one design sails have been generated on the floor with flat patterns and fairing battens. Ours were no exception. 3D CAD sail design packages produce flat panels from 3D mould shapes. We needed a way of exactly digitising the 2D panel shapes to enable cutting by computer.

      Steve and Jonathan
      National Step Presentation London

We identified a way of copying shapes by use of a CAD drawing package. The project was recognised by Business Link as being eligible for the Shell Technology Enterprise Project (STEP) and this was carried out by local Mechanical Engineering student Jonathon Nicholson, the project was a raging sucess, Jonathon converted many patterns for one design sails, covers, insignias and bags into computer files for automatic cutting.
This resulted in a huge efficiency and quality improvement and Jonathan went on to win the prize for the best project in Cumbria, then the North West and finishing up a National Finalist in 2003.

Good Sailing from Steve and the team, thanks for your business and we look forward to being of service to you in the future.
